Attention Parents of Kindergarten Students
We are pleased to announced that we have been approved to hire an additional kindergarten teacher. This will allow for smaller class sizes and more individualized instruction for each child.
I will announce the name of the new kinder teacher as soon as I am able.
We look forward to welcoming all students back to Doss this Friday at Meet the Teacher.
Thank you for your continued support,

Safety Letter from the Principal
Dear Parents:
On the way to school this morning, a Doss 4th grader was approached by a stranger. The stranger asked the student questions like “where do you live” and “what is your name”?
The child is safe. She did not respond, walked around the stranger, and continued on to school. This incident was immediately reported to Austin ISD police and APD. The police reported that a man with a similar description also approached a middle school student recently.
The description is as follows: 50ish, African American male, wearing athletic shorts. He is bald and does not currently have facial hair.
Please be on alert! Make sure that your kids walk or ride to school with a buddy. Report any suspicious behavior immediately to the Austin Police Department by calling 311.
Thank you!

Campus Advisory Council Openings
Dear All:
Doss Elementary has an advisory group called the Campus Advisory Council. This group meets monthly with the principal to discuss current events at the school. The CAC is not a decision making body but instead, advises the principal. Terms on the CAC are two years. At this time, we have three openings for parents, one opening for a community member, and one opening for a business representative.
If you have an interest in being on the CAC, please download and complete the application. You may also pick up an application in the main office. Applications are due on May 7 to the main office. As per the CAC bylaws, applicants will be reviewed by and selected by the CAC officers. If you have any questions, please call me directly at 414-2365.
Thank you!

——————–
AISD Parents & Families,
As the District continues to strive for excellence in preparing our students for academic success, we encourage parents to offer feedback on the 2011-12 school year by completing the AISD Parent Survey .Your opinions are important and will be taken into consideration as we strive to serve our students better.
Within the next few weeks, you will receive a phone call with a brief survey about your child’s school.
If you would like to provide more detailed feedback about your child’s school, then please take a few moments to complete the survey which is available online February through April 2012. The survey can be accessed through the AISD website: www.austinisd.org. Please note that your responses to the survey items are completely anonymous.
Once available, the results of our survey will be distributed to campus principals, district administrators, as well as the Board of Trustees. Our community can also view the results when the reports are posted to the AISD site this spring.
If you do not have access to a computer, you may take the survey on a smart phone, such as an iPhone, Blackberry, or other phone with internet access. In addition, computers will be made available at your child’s school, where you may go to take the survey online. Please contact your school directly to make arrangements.
If you have any questions or concerns about the survey, you may contact the AISD Department of Research and Evaluation at 512-414-1724.
Thank you for taking the time to help us understand our strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Thank you.
