Book Spring Read-A-Thon at Doss: Jan. 28, 2013 – Feb. 8, 2013.

Each year Doss participates in a Read-A-Thon sponsored by BookSpring. Our students ask family, friends and neighbors to pledge a monetary amount for every page the child reads during the read-a-thon. Even a penny per page can make a big difference to area children in need of the books provided by BookSpring! Doss students experience the joy of reading and the pride of community service by raising money to put new books into the hands of children who need them most.

Students can earn prizes based on the amount of money they raise!

BookSpring is the non-profit organization created from the merger of Reading is Fundamental of Austin and Capital Area Reach Out and Read. Last year, over 140,000 books were given to over 45,500 of the neediest children and their families in Greater Austin through this literacy intervention program. BookSpring instills children with a love of reading and promotes books as a means to success. By offering a range of programs that support early literacy, BookSpring champions the value of reading and encourages parents to read to their children from birth on, resulting in stronger families and increased life-long opportunities for every child.
