Principal Update 9/30/22

Good afternoon Doss parents and families!  I hope your Friday is going well.

Week 7 Walkthrough Photos

On Tuesday, October 4th from 5:00-6:30 P.M. the PTA will host both a Bond and Trustee Candidate vertical team/community meeting.  The purpose of this meeting is to provide a brief discussion of the 2022 Bond and allow parents/staff to ask questions.  We will also host both District 4 AISD Board Trustee Candidates just after the bond presentation so they may discuss some of their philosophy and take questions from the community.  As you know, both bond and trustee candidates’ information is critical to the future of our district.  I highly recommend attending either in person or virtually.

During my walkthroughs this week, I observed many of our teachers beginning to serve students in small groups.  In a traditional method of teaching and learning, the teacher teaches a short lesson and allows students to explore centers that based on their current learning standards.  Using our Professional Learning Communities (PLC) method of collaboration and data driven instruction, our teacher differentiate students support by providing students intervention (as needed) and enrichment for those who have met standard on that particular learning standard.  It was great to observe these structures after many weeks of setting classroom expectations and classroom culture building.  I look forward to what I will observe next week!

Lastly, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will take their first Short Cycle Assessment (SCA) for Math and Reading (5th Science) over the next seven school days.  The SCA’s are designed to assess what teachers taught over the past six weeks so our teachers can evaluate more formally which students are needing additional intervention and those needing enrichment.  Our focus on essential standards, we hope, will prove fruitful when student data is received.  Please help us set our students up for success by ensuring he/she is getting enough sleep, eating a protein-filled breakfast, and arrives to school on time.  Your teachers will communicate the specific date and time of your child’s SCA.

Have a wonderful weekend!  Do take time to get outside and enjoy the cooler weather.
