Principal Update 7/23

Doss Owls

Good afternoon Doss parents and families.  I hope you are having a great day today.

Thank you to all of our attendees today during the principal coffee.  It was great to see you all.  I had several updates that included more TEA updates for returning to school and scheduling, curriculum and instruction district roll out and philosophy, Doss specific scheduling, and more.  If you missed it, be sure to check out the video linked below.  I will also be using Padlet next week to support the retention of parent questions and answers for those to view at a later time.  Thank you for the suggestion!

AISD Technology Update

  • New Technology Distribution Tile Available Soon
    • We will soon be activating an AISD Cloud Technology Distribution tile for both staff and families. This will enable families to make device requests and monitor status. It will also provide a way for staff to modify requests on behalf of families, without the use of the separate Google form. In order to help families prepare for this system, please support your families in setting up their Parent Cloud accounts by having office staff send a Fast Pass email to the parent email address on file, or by directing them to the “Parent Cloud Account Creation” button at my.austinisd.org. Please contact the Parent Support line for assistance at 512-414-9187, Option 6. (Parent Cloud accounts are also necessary for online registration.)
      • Pat Minford, Doss Registrar, can also help with this.
  • AISD Computer Curbside Locations
    • Please regularly consult the Computer Curbside online flyer for up-to-date information about locations.
    • Location availability may be impacted by temporary closures without warning. The online flyer and the wait times site (bit.ly/aisdcomputerwait) will be kept up-to-date with any same-day changes.
    • Graduating seniors and students who are withdrawing can continue to return their Chromebooks at these locations, and campuses can collect them, as well. Please remind your registrars to do what they can to ensure families return their Chromebooks prior to withdrawing students.
  • Internet Access
    • We are in the process of acquiring 10,000 Internet hotspots for distribution to students who do not have WiFi at home. Hotspot availability and the process for families to request them will be communicated in the Principals’ Weekly, through social media, and via SchoolMessenger.
  • Technology for Pre-k-2nd Grade
    • iPad Distribution for the Fall:  We are securing approximately 24,000 iPads that will be issued to all students in PreK3 through second grade, for use while students are enrolled in those grade levels in Austin ISD. We are developing several drafts of what the distribution process might look like, and the exact timing and details of the process are being finalized this week. Currently, we anticipate offering pickup at several centralized locations, as well as alternative arrangements for families who cannot come to a pick-up location. In order to finalize these plans, the Technology Department is consulting with our iPad distribution contractor, GTS.
    • An important part of this process will be a new AISD Cloud Technology Distribution tile for both staff and families, which will be released soon. This will enable families to make device requests and monitor status. It will also provide a way for staff to modify requests on behalf of families. An important way to help families prepare for this is to support them in setting up their Parent Cloud accounts, which will also help with online registration. Have office staff send a Fast Pass email to the parent email address on file, or direct them to the “Parent Cloud Account Creation” button at my.austinisd.org. Please contact the Parent Support line for assistance at 512-414-9187, Option 6.
