Principal Update 8/26/22

Good afternoon Doss parents and families.  Happy Friday to you all!

It was great to conduct the majority of my official classroom walkthroughs this week.  Our teachers have been spending time working to ensure all classrooms are building positive classroom culture and climate in addition to routines and procedures.  Many of them were already diving into the the curriculum and working closely with students.  I am incredibly proud of the efforts and teamwork of our teachers and staff to make our learning environment so positive for our students.  We are truly off to a great start due to their efforts.We are currently at 847 students at Doss which is about ten students over our student projection from last year.  This is great news!  As you might be aware, we were able to open additional classrooms in first and second grade prior to classroom lists being posted.  I am incredibly grateful for Mrs. Krost and Ms. Raup for supporting as long-term substitutes until we are able to fill them with a teacher.  More recently, we noted that kindergarten is now at 23/24 in each class as well and may result in gaining another teacher.  While nothing is final at this time, I will be communicating with these teams and families very closely over the next few weeks.  Once we get past Labor Day, I hope student enrollment will slow down a bit.  More to come soon. Lastly, I loved seeing many of you at the Back to School Night for Prek-2nd on Wednesday.  It was great to engage with you in conversation and watch our teachers discuss routines and procedures.  On Thursday, September 1, we will welcome our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade parents at Back to School Night.  As educators, we GREATLY appreciate the relationship with our parents and true collaborators in children’s education.  I look forward to our work together this year.
