Reopening Update 6/22

Doss Owls

Happy summer Doss families and community!

This message is intended to provide a quick update regarding the reopening of our school as we grow closer to the 2020-2021 school year. Know the situation with reopening schools is fluid and based partially on the number of COVID-19 cases in Travis County. Finalized schedules for reopening schools may come throughout July and into August. It is the goal of AISD and Doss Elementary to ensure the safety of our students and staff members. This is what we know at this time:

  • School will start on August 18th, 2020 either in person, virtually, or both.
  • AISD’s 2020-2021 calendar was approved last spring and is currently valid until any changes are made by the board of trustees.
  • We will be moved into our wonderful new, modernized campus by August 18th.
  • Expect to have both synchronous (virtually and in person) and asynchronous (self paced virtual or in person) learning at the beginning of school.
  • Pre-K through 2nd grade will use Seesaw primarily and 3rd through 5th will use Blend (Canvas) primarily to support virtual teaching and learning for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • Staff will be thoroughly trained on health and safety procedures to ensure the safety of our students and staff as we return to school (see below for more information).
  • We are currently planning various return-to-school models that will be implemented at a moments notice.
  • Parents will have the option to keep their children home if they do not feel it is safe to return.

Stay tuned to the Doss PTA web page for ongoing updates and reach out to me for any questions you might have. I will update this page when we have new information from our campus or district.
