Good afternoon Doss parents and community! I hope you all are well today.
On Wednesday, July 8th we received new information from TEA regarding instructional settings and providing guidance for school funding as we move into the 2020-2021 school year. You can read this overview here. I truly hope TEA allows more local discretion on how we send students back to school to ensure the safety of our staff, students, and families. Tying funding to something so politicized while taking little feedback from families and educators is troubling. While I fully understand the political nature of this situation we must take all precautions to keep everyone safe. Safety has been and always will remain #1.
With that said, I return to work on Monday, July 13th and assume will be receiving regular guidance from AISD about reopening schools. Know that I will continue providing updates to you via Living Tree/Blend and, now, the Doss PTA Webpage. In addition, I will continue to hold regular Parent/Principal coffees each Thursday at 10:00 A.M. to help streamline communication and receive questions and input as we move towards the 2020-2021 school year. Also, thank you to the many parents that have had questions/concerns/input for reopening Doss in the fall. If my email does not suffice, I am happy to take phone calls as well.
The reopening school situation continues to be fluid. I expect continued changes/updates from TEA and AISD over the coming weeks. As a parent, it’s hard to not have 100% knowledge of what schooling will look like in the fall….I get it. My plan is to begin meeting with staff members the week of July 20 to establish flexible schedules and to understand their comfortability of returning to work. I hope to narrow down our plans each week as we prepare for our students to return either online or in person. Again, updates will be shared along the way.
Know that I am incredibly thankful for you all and to serve as your principal. I look forward to collaborating with you all to understand what we can do to support you and our students as we move throughout this year. As I have said before, we can do this. We have an AMAZING staff, parents, and community that will see this thing through. As always, do not hesitate to contact me for any reason. There are no bad questions/concerns/suggestions and I am NEVER too busy to communicate with any of you.
Have a wonderful weekend. Stay safe.
