What is the Doss Mandarin Immersion Program?
The Mandarin Immersion Program at Doss is a language acquisition program in which the students spend half of their day immersed in the Mandarin language. Math and Science are taught in Mandarin. Our program follows the 50/50 Immersion Model.
What is the daily schedule of a kinder student in the Mandarin Immersion Program?
Kinder students in Mandarin Immersion start their day in the English classroom with their English teacher. They have Language Arts and Social Studies instruction in English. Midday, they go to lunch as a class. Their Mandarin teacher picks them up from lunch and the rest of the day is spent learning Math and Science entirely in Mandarin.
Who is a good fit?
Students who are confident and eager to learn are the best fit for this program. If you feel that your child might have reading difficulties or have behavioral difficulties, asking them to learn another language might not be the best fit.
Who is eligible for the program?
The entry point into the program is Kindergarten. If you have an incoming kindergarten student, and currently live in the Doss residential area, you may apply during the spring of 2019.
There are 2 requirements. First, you must reside in the Doss attendance zone prior to the application process beginning. We are a closed campus and are unable to make any exceptions to the zone policy. Secondly, parents must attend one information session with the principal prior to applying.
