Good morning Doss Families –
This is a friendly reminder that Monday, April 6 is a student holiday.
As you know, our calendar has included very few five-day school weeks over the past couple of months. If you’re interested in helping shape future calendars, we invite you to be part of the calendar task force for the 27-28 and 28-29 school years. Please submit your application by April 9. HERE are the details.
April’s Character Strong trait is COURAGE. Courage is choosing what is helpful, right, and kind even when it is hard or scary. Courage is the perfect word for April because it’s the month of STAAR testing and courage is exactly what students show when they take any test.
Courage looks like:
- Trying their best, even if they’re unsure of an answer
- Staying focused, even when the test feels long
- Not giving up when a question is challenging
- Believing in themselves and the learning they’ve done all year
Taking a test isn’t about being perfect – it’s about being brave enough to try. Every time a student reads a tough question, takes a deep breath, and keeps going, they are showing real COURAGE.
STAAR testing begins this week for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Our students are well-prepared for these exams. Our teachers have been diligently preparing the students all year. If you have a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader, please ensure they arrive on campus by 7:30am on testing days so students can settle in their classrooms before we start testing. We encourage students to get plenty of sleep the night before the STAAR and have a healthy breakfast the mornings of testing.

Este es un recordatorio amistoso de que el lunes 6 de abril es un día sin clases para estudiantes.
Como saben, nuestro calendario ha incluido muy pocas semanas completas de cinco días durante los últimos meses. Si están interesados en ayudar a dar forma a los calendarios futuros, los invitamos a ser parte del comité de calendario para los años escolares 2027–2028 y 2028–2029. Por favor, envíen su solicitud antes del 9 de abril. AQUÍ están los detalles.
El rasgo de Character Strong de abril es el CORAJE. El coraje es elegir hacer lo que es útil, correcto y amable, incluso cuando es difícil o da miedo. Coraje es la palabra perfecta para abril porque es el mes de los exámenes STAAR y el coraje es exactamente lo que los estudiantes demuestran cuando toman cualquier examen.
El coraje se ve así:
- Intentar hacer lo mejor posible, incluso si no están seguros de una respuesta
- Mantenerse enfocados, incluso cuando el examen se siente largo
- No rendirse cuando una pregunta es difícil
- Creer en sí mismos y en lo que han aprendido durante todo el año
Tomar un examen no se trata de ser perfecto, sino de ser lo suficientemente valiente para intentarlo. Cada vez que un estudiante lee una pregunta difícil, respira profundo y sigue adelante, está demostrando verdadero CORAJE.
Los exámenes STAAR comienzan esta semana para nuestros estudiantes de 3.º, 4.º y 5.º grado. Nuestros estudiantes están bien preparados para estos exámenes. Nuestros maestros han trabajado diligentemente durante todo el año para prepararlos. Si tiene un estudiante de 3.º, 4.º o 5.º grado, por favor asegúrese de que llegue a la escuela antes de las 7:30 a.m. en los días de examen para que pueda acomodarse en su salón antes de comenzar. Recomendamos que los estudiantes duerman bien la noche anterior al STAAR y que tomen un desayuno saludable en las mañanas de examen.
