Principal Sheridan Newsletter 4/7/24

Good morning Doss Families –

Doss Owls have many things to look forward to this week. Monday, April 8th is the amazing Total Solar Eclipse. All staff and students will experience the eclipse. All will be given a pair of eclipse glasses to protect their eyes and all teachers are required to share a safety presentation with their class prior to the eclipse. Wednesday, April 10th is a student holiday and a staff professional development day. We are excited to use this day to learn about the new Bridges math curriculum we will be using next school year. And we wrap up this week by sending our Future Problem Solvers teams to the State Bowl on Saturday, April 13th. Best of luck to those students.

April 10th is a student holiday for the observance of Eid al-Fitr. Eid al Fitr is a three day holiday that ends the Islamic month of Ramadan and is one of Islam’s two major religious holidays. Eid al-Fitr means “Festival of breaking fast.” Families who observe Eid al-Fitr will celebrate with family and food after the end of a long fast, engaging in prayer and other traditions.

Wednesday, April 17th is Student Mental Health Empowerment Day. Austin ISD invites you to join them on April 17th, 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., at the Anita Coy Facility for a collaborative trauma-informed event promoting youth mental health and wellness.

Take note of the STAAR testing dates coming up.

Reading Language Arts (3rd, 4th, and 5th grades) – April 16th

Science (5th grade) – April 18

Math (3rd, 4th, and 5th grades) – April 25th

Have a great week –
