Principal Sheridan Newsletter 1/14/24

Good morning Doss Families –

I hope this finds you staying warm and cozy. One positive thing about this winter weather is we have a school holiday tomorrow, Monday, January 15th, so stay home and take care of your people, pets, plants, and pipes.

During our Parent Principal Coffee last Friday we hosted Danielle Bryant, educational director of the ADL for the Austin and surrounding areas. She shared information about what the Anti-Defamation League is and does as well as explaining their program, No Place For Hate. We learned their website offers many great resources and a couple valuable ones for families are Table Talk –  Family Conversations about Current Events and Book Matter Children’s & Young Adult Literature – age appropriate book recommendations about bias, bullying, diversity and social justice.

Doss Science Fair is Wednesday, January 17th. Thank you to all of our parents and community members who will judge the Doss Science Fair on Wednesday, January 17th.  As a reminder, our participating 4th and 5th graders will present their project between 8:00-12:00.  Students who qualify to move on to regionals will be notified by the end of the day.  We will hold a public viewing of the science fair projects from 6:00-7:00 P.M. should you wish to view all of our student’s amazing work. If you have any questions, please reach out to Nathan Steenport (nathansteenport@gmail.com).

If you are interested in supporting our Anderson Vertical Team students, the Anderson High School Fine Arts Presents the Spongebob Musical. Show runs Thursday, January 18 – Saturday, January 20. Tickets can be purchased HERE Be prepared to be impressed and amazed by the talent these students’ have and the quality of the production.

Austin ISD will host a virtual Advanced Opportunities session for families and students on Thursday, January 18 at 6pm, with a repeat offering the next day on Friday, January 19 at 12pm FLYER Topics covered – Dual Credit and OnRamps, Early College High School, P-TECH, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate, Dual Language, World Languages, Counseling, Academics, and AVID.

Parents, if you plan on attending the Friday Assembly this Friday, January 19th please adhere to the following requests. All parents should stand at the top of the learning stairs in order to keep students safe and accounted for. If your student is presenting or performing during the assembly, we will keep them after the assembly so you can come down to the front of the stage and take videos and pictures.

Gentle reminder – School hours are 7:40am to 3:10pm. It is important for students to arrive on time, between 7 and 7:30am so they are in their classroom and ready to learn by 7:40am.

Have a wonderful week –

Principal Sheridan
