Principal Sheridan Newsletter 10/22/23

Good morning Doss Families –

I must share that I am enjoying the warmer temperatures after being ‘iced” on Friday morning; my core temperature has finally warmed up.  What a fun way to start the day!  Again, the purpose was fun and to offer a grand gesture of THANKS to you for contributing to Doss.  The entire staff feels so valued by your support.  THANK YOU!

Last year, some students wrote to me concerning the environment and what Doss can do to support our planet.  In response, we’ve added a student-led Green Team, and Mrs. Cleveland is the sponsor.  Their first Green Team initiative will be collecting candy wrappers in the designated “Trash or Treasure” boxes at the front of the school from the day of the H’Owl to Nov. 3rd. You can read more about “How it Works” here: https://www.rubicon.com/trash-or-treasure/how-it-works/.  Doss Owls are always making us proud!

Another Doss moment of pride is observing all our students signing the No Place for Hate promise. Doss focuses on inclusivity, kindness, and respect for all, and the counselors support our teachers and students by providing enrichment and supporting these initiatives.  Here is the Counselor Newsletter.

Doss H’OWL is this weekend, Sunday, October 29th!  For those new to Doss, this is our fall carnival and an awesome community-building tradition.  Be sure to plan to attend and volunteer in your child’s classroom booth (every class is assigned a booth to run). If you have any questions, please contact the Doss PTA.  It’s a Doss family affair, and I look forward to seeing you all there.

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees is resuming conversations about the superintendent profile and hiring process. Interim Superintendent Segura’s contract is currently set to expire on June 30. The Office for Organizational Transformation and WestEd, the research company conducting the district equity assessment, are hosting community conversations to learn from families, staff, and community organizations about what is and is not working well in AISD.  All three conversations will be held in person over the next two weeks or via Zoom at the Martin MS Library.  Details are below.

Have a wonderful week,
